Storybook Favorites: Epics of India
My three favorite storybooks from the previous semesters were "+image.PR," "Paranormal: The Ayodhya Files," and "HinduLoverOnline."
The first storybook that caught my attention was "+image.PR." The story was a creative application of Shakti which is not evident by the title. Prior to reading the introduction, I did not know what Shakti was. I really liked how creative this storybook was. The design of it was like a website with four tabs: Home, About Us, Introduction, and Stories. This grabbed my attention and made me want to explore the storybook more. Another thing that I really liked with the layout was how the about us tab defined what Shakti was since the introduction did not really give the opportunity to define it. The layout of the introduction was a conversation between Rama and the PR intern that was giving them the tour of the facility. This style of introducing the topic was very creative and did a good job of setting the scene and background for the subsequent stories.
The second storybook was "Paranormal: The Ayodhya Files." The first thing I noticed was the design; it was made to look like one of those old websites you look up when you were younger about urban legends or ghost sightings in your hometown. This really fit with the theme they were going for their storybook. The storybook was about Rama and the demons he encounters which I do not have any background in. The title is not entirely evident on what the story would be about but does allude to the structure of the storybook. Each story would be its own case file about the demon that Rama encounters. The introduction does a nice job of hooking the reader. Similar to "+image.PR," the introduction was designed like a conversation between two people that provided the background for the stories.
The final, and my favorite of the three storybooks, was "HinduLoverOnline." The layout of the story was like an online dating website and I especially loved the introduction because it is worded exactly like an online dating site with their super cheesy lines. The title does a nice job of alluding to what the storybook was about: the various love stories found in Indian epics. The introduction also does a great job explaining the topic by providing examples of successful love stories from characters that used this dating website. It was very creative and made me want to read these stories. Similar to the other three, I have no background knowledge on these topics.
Each of these were very unique and really helped illustrate just how flexible and creative the storybook assignment can be.
